God Is in the Midst of US
In the winter of 1957, God moved in the depths of the soul of then Elder John P. Lee, Sr. saying, “Souls are perishing, fields are white and ready to be harvested, but the laborers are few. If you go I’ll go with you, open our mouth and I’ll speak for you.” Obeying the Call, Elder Lee left Evergreen Church of God In Christ and founded the Revelation Church Of God In Christ at 755 Marcy avenue, corner of Lexington Avenue in the heart of Brooklyn; Superintendent Reddings officiated at this momentous occasion.
The Beginning
In the beginning of the Ministry, Elder Lee served with Sister Margaret Lee and their four children – John P. Lee Jr., Margaret Lavern, Marvin Jerome, and James Gregory. God immediately sent a 30-day Revival that drew people inform the community. The Tar Heel bar, located across the street from the church, experienced some converts too. Mother Delie Teel served as the first Church Mother. Mother Teel served faithfully and diligently. The late Mother L. Days was the first Church Mother and many great soldiers joined including; Deacons Hays, Teal, Williams and Leach and Mothers Williams, Sheard, and Goods. God’s presence tabernacle led among them and many miracles where performed, including: a woman whose withered hand was restored; a crippled woman’s legs where restored; and a woman that had three strokes was delivered. e church’s growth was evident as the ministry began to flourish. People often reminisce about how the Holy Spirit moved on March Avenue – remembering how God saved, delivered, healed, and answered prayers (just to name a few) on their behalf. Pastor Lee or one of the many Evangelists of the church such as Mother Washington conducted those early revivals. Over time Mother Lovell A. Days was elevated to the office of Church Mother. Mother Days carried the mantle of a Church Mother as a consecrated prayer warrior.
The Church Grew
With this edifice seemingly bursting at the seams, Pastor Lee knew it was time to relocate. In September 1966, the Lord led the ministry to 433 Myrtle Avenue – formerly the Peerless Theater. The young, thriving church captured the heart of its community and the Lord “added to the church such as needed to be saved.” As time passed many others signed up for battle including: Deacons Wisher, Welch, Gates and Mothers Stinson, Gates, Johnson, Pearson, Brown, and Ingram. The first assistant to the pastor was the late Elder Harrison. God continually blessing, Mother Essie Mae Williams stepped into the office of Church Mother. Mother Williams loved the children and worked to perfect the gifts within the Ministry. After Mother Williams, Mother Jeanie Simpson was appointed as Church Mother. Mother Simpson continued to work faithfully in the Ministry. Mother Emily Lee is currently serving as Church Mother and is faithfully wearing the mantle passed to her from her predecessors.
Revelation continues to be a great church with an even greater future bestowing countless testimonies of healing, miracles and the many blessings that showers upon its worshippers. Like the children of Israel, we are poised on the precipice of a majestic new land given to us by God. Imperatively, our God-given beacon must shine even brighter in this community until men, women, and children repent of their sins and give themselves to a forgiving and just God. At the end of 2002 Bishop Lee’s vision to establish a Bible Institute occurred and the the F. D. Washington Bible Institute began enrolling students in biblical studies…GOD IS IN THE MIDST OF US.
Celebrating More than 60 Years of Ministry
Revelation has continued to beacon in the Fort Greene Community of Brooklyn, NY. The church continues to press toward the Harvest. In 2017 Bishop Lee was made Emeritus Pastor of Revelation. Superintendent Ramses Conyers was appointed Pastor. He along with his lovely wife, Lady Shereese Conyers had previously pastored Spring Forth COGIC. They along with their four adorable children are continuing to build upon the rich heritage of the ministry.
